Top Ten Tips on Memorizing Scripture!

Psalm 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I may not sin against you.

Hello dear friends and fellow bloggers. First off I want to apologize for not blogging in these past couple of weeks. It's been crazy! I got a second job and I'm still trying to adjust. Today I wanted to share with you some tips and tricks to help you memorize the Word of God.  I love the verse above. Memorizing scripture helps you be more aware of what you are saying and doing. We should all memorize scripture and keep memorizing new ones so we can be prepared to answer to anyone who comes to us.

Here are my top 10 tips and tricks

1) Write it out Multiple times. I love to write the scripture on note cards and then I have a page in my journal where I rewrite it. I always try to write one of the scriptures I'm memorizing on a sticky note and put it somewhere I can see it all day long.

2) Read it out loud and multiple times.

3) Have someone quiz you. I have my husband quiz me. We like to switch it up. He will either read the verse to me and I have to tell him where it is at and/or the other way around.

4) Write in colorful pens.

5) For visual learning like me, I recommend highlighting the main words. Word that are like the main point or just a few big words.

6) Write it either with a pen or marker. For me the bigger it is, the more easy it is to remember.

7) Stick the note cards somewhere you can see them and while doing something  read them out loud. Let's say I'm cooking. I will tape them on my cabinets and read them.

8) Have a specific spot for your notecard. For me it's a small filing folder from Dollar Tree and I have my note cards in there. Blank ones and used ones. I have a pen and sticky notes in there.

9) Write it on the palm of your hand.

10) Last but not least pray about it. I think this is the most important one. Pray for the desire to learn and remember.  Pray for guidance and wisdom.

I hope these 10 tips helped you. Let me know below if you have any questions. Let me know if you have other tips. I would love to hear them.

  1. I really really like #10! That's so important to pray for the desire to thirst for God's word. I remember when I used to pray about that all the time, and i really felt that God gave me the desire that i would ask him for daily.
